#Faithful2017 | Marie's Acting Journey Week 30/31

August 24, 2017

Back here, and it has picked up in the ATL. Kudos to my agency for sending some great auditions, and to my number one fan (hubby) for helping me so many times last minute. Below are my updates for the last couple weeks!

Marie's Acting Journey 2017 | Wk. 30/31

1. What did I learn this week about my craft?

Showfax. It's the best thing I always had access to but never used. It's a feature every smart actor should take advantage of. They are basically the sides that casting directors send out when there is a casting call. What I didn't know was that most from an episode for instance are posted at the same time though individual auditions for roles may not get sent out until later in the week. In the meantime (while I wait for that audition... or once I get one), I can research past episodes, other characters that are in the episode, and also just get more of a feeling for what my characters purpose is in the script. Of course, this doesn't work when "dummy sides" are used, but it's still giving me great motivation and insight.

2. What am I currently working on?

Election season is over in Atlanta, so the slate I was running on is celebrating a win in ALL local positions. Awesome! It was great to be a part of this dedicated team that is sure to do their very best for our local Atlanta actors (and elsewhere). I did not win, but I am continuing to serve with SAG-AFTRA on local committees which is always an honor. And of course, the best work I can do as a Union member is to continue doing good work, in class, in auditions, and eventually on set.

3. What was my "faith" lesson this week?

Confession... I was "one of those actors" this week. Please don't tell my agent! For the first time in FOREVER, I went to an in-person audition and forgot a resume. Headshots in my binder? Plenty. But I didn't double check the other basic. Basically, I was on a role with the most auditions at one time I have ever had and likely got a little lazy and careless. I tried to make an excuse to the casting director, but thankfully he called me out and helped me to see, there's no excuse. Especially in this competitive market. I need to stay humble, focused and realize, even in my many years of experience, I can't be too proud or self-righteous not to check on the basics.
